Getting Started

Welcome to the Black Writers Collective. To access your membership benefits, you must first join our Discord community—this is where all groups, discussions, and member resources live. 

 

Step 1: Join the Black Writers Collective Discord

Use the invite link below to join the Discord server:

Make sure you are logged into the same Discord account you intend to use long-term, as access to member groups is tied to your username.

Upgrading to Quill Society Membership

If you are upgrading to Quill Society, follow the steps below to complete your setup.

Step 2: Complete Your Membership Upgrade

Use the upgrade link to pay the $24 annual membership fee. After payment, you will be redirected to Discord to finish setting up your account (if you do not already have one).

Step 3: Complete Discord Account Setup

If you are new to Discord, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Enter your display name.

Step 2: Enter your birthday.

Step 3: Enter your email and password.

 

Need Help Accessing Member Groups?

Once you’ve joined the Black Writers Collective Discord, some groups require manual access. This is intentional and helps us keep focused, high-quality spaces.

Step 1: Join the Discord

If you haven’t already joined the Discord server, use the invite link provided after registration or in your welcome email. Make sure you are logged into the correct Discord account.

Critique Groups (Novelists Spot, etc.)

Our critique groups (including Novelists Spot) live inside the Black Writers Collective Discord but are not automatically visible to new members.

To be added:

Email us at the email in your confirmation receipt and include:

  • Your Discord username (exact spelling, including numbers if applicable)
  • The specific critique group(s) you want to join
Once added, the group will appear in your Discord left-hand sidebar.
Note: Critique groups are ongoing channels inside Discord.

Accountability Group: M.I.A. (Momentum in Action)

The M.I.A. Accountability Group is a structured space for writers who want consistent progress, goal-setting, and accountability. Access is also manual.

To join, email us and include:

  • Your Discord username
  • A request to join M.I.A.
Once added, you’ll see the M.I.A. channels appear in Discord.

Important Reminders

  • You must tell us which group you want — we can’t guess

  • Always include your Discord username

  • Be sure you are logged into the same Discord account you shared with us
